Getting Started
The basics, what Normies is, how to sign up, and what you can do on day one.
Normies is a money app that gives you a Visa card, a savings account that earns yield, and a crypto wallet, all in one place. Deposit money, spend anywhere Visa is accepted, earn yield on your savings, and track your net worth. Think of it as a banking app that also speaks crypto, built for people who want better tools without the complexity.
Normies hasn't launched yet. Join the waitlist and we'll email you when your spot opens. When we launch, you'll create an account with your email or phone number, and verify your identity (about 2 minutes) before you can deposit, spend, or earn.
Yes, for anything involving money. Verification through our partner Persona takes about 2 minutes: snap a photo of your government ID and take a quick selfie. This is required by law for any app that handles finances, and it protects your account from unauthorized access.
Browse the app, explore features, and set up your profile. Once you verify, everything opens up: deposits, spending, savings yield, and crypto transfers.
Normies launches first in the United States. We're working on international expansion and will announce new countries as they become available. Join the waitlist to be notified.
USDC is a digital dollar issued by Circle, a regulated company. 1 USDC is designed to track $1, backed by cash and short-term US Treasuries. It can wobble in rare cases (see Disclosures). When you use Normies, your balance is held as USDC, but it looks and feels like regular dollars. You don't need to think about the crypto side unless you want to.
A bank holds your money for you and lends it out. If the bank fails, you rely on FDIC insurance to get it back. Normies is different: your money stays in a wallet that only you control (self-custody). You get the same features you'd expect, like a card, savings, and transfers, but nobody else is holding your funds. Your money is yours, not a line item on someone else's balance sheet.
Your money stays exactly where it is: in your wallet. Normies uses self-custody through Privy, which means your funds live in a wallet embedded in your device. If Normies disappeared tomorrow, your wallet and funds would still be there. You'd recover your wallet independently and move your money wherever you want.
Money & Accounts
Moving dollars in and out, supported currencies, and what happens when things go sideways.
Two ways. Link your bank account and transfer dollars (they convert to USDC automatically), or send USDC directly to your Normies wallet address. Bank transfers typically arrive in 1-2 business days. Crypto deposits are near-instant.
Open your checking account, tap "Withdraw," pick your linked bank, and confirm. Your USDC converts back to dollars and arrives via ACH in 1-3 business days. No penalties, no minimum holding period.
Normies uses USDC (a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the US dollar) as its base currency. You can deposit and withdraw in USD. Crypto swaps support multiple tokens across several blockchains.
You hold it. Your funds sit in a self-custody wallet on your device, which means Normies never has custody of your money. There's no counterparty risk: if our servers went offline, your funds would still be accessible. Your checking balance is secured on Base (a fast, low-cost blockchain), and your savings earn yield through Aave, one of the most established and audited protocols in DeFi.
No monthly fees. No minimum balance. No annual card fee. No hidden charges. Some transactions involve small network fees (a few cents for on-chain transfers), and we show you the exact cost before you confirm anything. If there's a fee, you'll see it first.
Your funds stay in your account. Failed transactions don't deduct money. If a deposit or transfer gets stuck, you can check its status in the Activity tab. Most issues resolve automatically within a few minutes as the network confirms the transaction. If something stays stuck, contact support and we'll sort it out.
Card
The Normies card, where it works, how it earns you cashback, and how the crypto-to-fiat magic happens.
Verify your identity and fund your account. Your virtual Visa card appears instantly. Add it to Apple Pay or Google Pay and you're spending within minutes. You spend anywhere Visa works while your balance keeps earning, and the card auto-pays from your balance monthly. No APR, no minimum payments. The metal card ships free on request.
Anywhere Visa is accepted, both online and in-store, worldwide. It works just like any other Visa card.
It just works. When you tap your card, Normies authorizes the payment from your USDC balance. Our card partner Rain settles with the merchant in regular dollars. The merchant doesn't know or care that your balance is crypto. You see the charge in real-time in the app, just like any bank card.
Every purchase earns cashback in USDC, deposited directly to your checking account. Cashback rates vary by category, with higher rates for everyday spending like groceries and subscriptions. We'll publish current rates and eligible categories in the app at launch.
Yes. Add your Normies Visa card directly to Apple Pay or Google Pay from the Card tab in the app. Tap to pay at any contactless terminal, just like you'd use any other card in your wallet.
Savings & Yield
How your savings earn around 5% APY (variable, not guaranteed), where the yield comes from, and what happens when rates change.
Move money from checking to savings with one tap. Your balance immediately starts earning yield through Aave, one of the largest and most audited lending protocols in DeFi. Yield accrues continuously (not monthly like a bank), and you can see it growing in real-time in the app. Withdraw anytime with no penalties.
Around 5% APY, though the rate is variable and not guaranteed (see Disclosures). Rates fluctuate with market demand, and the app shows the live rate so you always know what you're earning right now.
No, DeFi yields are variable. But Aave is one of the most battle-tested protocols in crypto, with billions in deposits and a track record spanning years. We chose it specifically for reliability. DeFi yield still carries smart-contract and market risk (see Disclosures). Any yield you've already earned is yours permanently; it's never clawed back even if rates drop.
Your dollars are supplied to a lending pool. Borrowers pay interest to use that liquidity, and that interest flows back to you. It's straightforward lending, not speculative trading or staking. The same basic model banks use, just more transparent and with better rates.
Yes. Move funds back from savings to checking whenever you want. There's no lock-up period, no penalties, and no minimum holding time. Your money is always accessible.
Yes, yield is variable and fluctuates with market demand for borrowing on Aave V3. Rates can go up or down. The app always shows the current rate, and your accrued yield is never clawed back. Even if rates drop to near-zero, you keep everything you've already earned.
We're not tax advisors, but in the United States, yield earned on savings is generally considered taxable income. Normies will provide an annual summary of your yield earnings to help with tax filing. Consult a tax professional for guidance specific to your situation.
Security
Self-custody, key management, data protection, and what happens if something goes wrong.
Self-custody means you control your own money. Your private keys (what controls your wallet) are embedded in your device through Privy, our wallet partner. Normies never has access to your keys. If we disappeared tomorrow, your funds would still be right where you left them. See our Security page for the full technical model.
You won't lose your money. Your wallet can be recovered through Privy's recovery system using your email and device authentication. We recommend enabling all available recovery methods in the app so getting back in is easy if you ever need it.
Normies uses self-custody, so your funds are not held by us and not subject to FDIC insurance. Different risks apply: crypto assets are not FDIC insured, and DeFi yield carries smart-contract and market risk (see Disclosures). Normies is built so we can't freeze your wallet, lend out your deposits, or restrict your access. Your card is issued through Rain's banking partner, which is regulated.
All data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Identity verification is handled by Persona, a SOC 2 Type II certified provider. We collect only what's legally required and never sell your data. Period. See our Privacy Policy for the full breakdown.
Freeze your card instantly from the app (Card tab > Freeze). Then contact our support team and we'll investigate immediately. Rain, our card partner, provides full dispute resolution for unauthorized Visa transactions, the same process you'd get with any bank card. Card fraud is treated as our highest-priority support tier.
Normies is not a bank. We're a technology company that builds financial tools. Your Visa card is issued through Rain's regulated banking partner. Your funds are held in a self-custody wallet that you control, not in a bank deposit account. Identity verification is handled by Persona, a regulated provider. We comply with all applicable US financial regulations.
Yes, there are standard limits on deposits, withdrawals, and card spending, as required by financial regulations. Your current limits are visible in the app under Settings > Limits. Limits may increase as your account matures and after completing full verification.
Visit normies.co/support to reach our team (real people, not a bot wall) or email support@normies.co. We aim to reply within one business day, and card emergencies (lost, stolen, unauthorized charges) go to the front of the queue.
Crypto
Sending, swapping, blockchains, and the rare mistake you can't undo.
Yes. Send USDC to another Normies user instantly with zero fees. You can also send crypto to any external wallet address on supported blockchains.
Normies runs on Base (an Ethereum Layer 2) for fast, low-cost transactions. The swap feature supports additional networks through LiFi and DeBridge, so you can bridge assets across chains without leaving the app.
Yes. The in-app swap lets you exchange between supported tokens across multiple chains. Swaps are powered by LiFi and DeBridge, which aggregate rates across decentralized exchanges to find you the best price.
Normies covers gas fees for common in-app actions like moving money between your own checking and savings accounts. External sends may include small network fees (typically a few cents on Base), and you'll see the exact cost before confirming.
Crypto transactions are irreversible once confirmed on-chain. Normies cannot reverse them. Before sending, always double-check the recipient's address. For transfers between Normies users, you'll see the recipient's name for confirmation before the transaction goes through.
